Just a note in memory of my relatives Gabriel James Townsend (5th KSLI, 25 Sept 1915) and Albert Baker (7th South Staffords, 7 June 1917), who are listed on the Menin Gate Memorial - and a thank you, as ever, to the LPA and Ieperlingen for your daily act of remembrance.

I learned from my mum, that my Uncle, my grandad's brother Thomas W Ryles was named on Panel 37. Then I learned my great-grandad Headley, was named on Panel 36. I managed to visit in 2008, for the 90th Aniversary ceremonies. I was greatly moved & touched. Please keep up your excellent work.

Visited Ieper for the first time last week and was very impressed by the Last Post Ceremony. I had 2 uncles killed in the 1st W.W. and managed to visit one of their graves and see the other ones name in Tyne Cot cemetery as his body could not be identified. I was amazed and pleased to see this act of remembrance still being carried out to-day. A must for people of a certain age. I would also like to thank the people who ran the tours as they could not have been more helpful, and to the residents of Ieper itself for their cheerful and resilient attitude.

I would like to thank the LPA, on behalf of Stonehouse Pipe Band, for the opportunity to play at the 26th June 2010 ceremony. It was a great honour that touched us all deeply. Myself, wife & both my daughters (13 & 12 years) will never forget the emotions we felt as we played. We will not forget them.

I laid a wreath at the Menin Gate last month in memory of my great uncle whose name is on the memorial as one of the missing (Private H Lloyd, Kings Liverpool Regiment). I would like to thank the Association and the local people for remembering the fallen in this way every day. I was moved to tears at the ceremony but was touched by the respectful way in which it was conducted. Thank you also for giving me the opportunity to lay a wreath on behalf of my family. I was most grateful.

Being able to lay a wreath at the Last Post made our Centenary trip to Belgium very memorable. Katie, one of the 9 year old girls who laid the wreath said: “I was really frightened when it came to our turn to lay the wreath, but I am so glad that I did it” Whilst Jade, who is 10 years old said: “the walls of the gate were plastered with loads of names and it’s hard to believe that all these men died in the war”. As our wreath said: "We open our hearts so that we can share, A moment of silence and offer a prayer" It was a very significant way to celebrate 100 years of Baden Powell's Guiding. We will never forget the Last Post nor what it signifies. Thank you.
