I was speechless when I visited The Menin Gate, so very sad. My Dad is buried at Adegem. I am lucky enough to have as friends Iris and Daniel Van Landschoot who belong to the Legion and visit my Dad often. Like others before me I too would like to say a huge thank you to the Belgium people for their love and care of our Fallen. I hope to return to Ypres again to pay my respects to so many.

I visited Ieper many years ago and attending the Menin Gate Ceremony was one of the most moving experiences of my life. This year I was lucky enough to be invited to come along with The Darford Choir and doing so was able to attend the concert, the service in St George's Church, plus take part in the Menin Gate Ceremony on the evening of the 10th November. I felt privilaged to be there. I have a Great Uncle who was killed at The Battle of the Somme and I will never forget those who gave their lives for us.

My visit to Ieper will alway live in my memory like it was yesterday, Special thank you to the people of Belgium for their loving care in tending the graves of our beloved fallen. I was honored to spend a day with Johan Van De Walle and visit him at Anzac Rest ... I was also honored to meet and talk to artist Soren Hawkes who's sketch will have place of honor in my home. Our band took part in the service on Saturday 30th October 2010 playing "A Gaelic Blessing", "Crimmond", 2 hymns and the national anthems of Belgium and Great Britain. A wonderful emotional experience for us all. Thank you for allowing us to take part.

Woensdag 08/09/2010 "Last Post" voor de eerste maal bijgewoond in aanwezigheid van mijn echtgenote en vrienden. Niettegenstaande je dit evenement al via TV meegemaakt hebt, hetgeen je reeds koude rillingen bezorgt, is het bijwonen van deze plechtigheid in realtime, kortweg adembenemend! Daar leer je stilstaan bij de trieste gebeurtenis! Laat deze activiteit eeuwig een signaal zijn aan allen, waar ook ter wereld, dat oorlog voeren zinloos is. Ter nagedachtenis aan alle betrokkenen.

I took part in the Daily Last Post ceremony on Saturday the 6th of November. It was an amazing experience and one I will never forget. Lest we forget: They gave their today, for our tomorrow.

Voor het eerst dat ik dit meemaakte. Het was ijzingwekkend mooi. We waren slechts een dag in Ieper met een hele jaarlaag van onze school. Ik ben ontzettend blij dat ik mee ben gegaan. Dank aan de mensen die de Last Post in ere houden, het was meer dan de moeite waard.

Het was de eerste maal in mijn leven dat ik de Last Post bijwoonde en ik moet zeggen ... het was ontroerend, hartverwarmend, ... ik heb er geen woorden voor ... zo diep was ik onder de indruk ... Bedankt, lieve mensen om dit in ere te houden ...
