Woensdag 08/09/2010 "Last Post" voor de eerste maal bijgewoond in aanwezigheid van mijn echtgenote en vrienden. Niettegenstaande je dit evenement al via TV meegemaakt hebt, hetgeen je reeds koude rillingen bezorgt, is het bijwonen van deze plechtigheid in realtime, kortweg adembenemend! Daar leer je stilstaan bij de trieste gebeurtenis! Laat deze activiteit eeuwig een signaal zijn aan allen, waar ook ter wereld, dat oorlog voeren zinloos is. Ter nagedachtenis aan alle betrokkenen.

I took part in the Daily Last Post ceremony on Saturday the 6th of November. It was an amazing experience and one I will never forget. Lest we forget: They gave their today, for our tomorrow.

Voor het eerst dat ik dit meemaakte. Het was ijzingwekkend mooi. We waren slechts een dag in Ieper met een hele jaarlaag van onze school. Ik ben ontzettend blij dat ik mee ben gegaan. Dank aan de mensen die de Last Post in ere houden, het was meer dan de moeite waard.

Het was de eerste maal in mijn leven dat ik de Last Post bijwoonde en ik moet zeggen ... het was ontroerend, hartverwarmend, ... ik heb er geen woorden voor ... zo diep was ik onder de indruk ... Bedankt, lieve mensen om dit in ere te houden ...

Hello everyone. My name is Max Pauwels and I am student in Brussels film academy. This year a fellow student and me are making a documentary about the Last Post memorial service in Ypres. We would very much like to contact people who will be there on the 11th of november and hopefully get some kind of interview. Or perhaps there might be someone who would like to share his story with us. We are very intrested in why people are still coming from all over the world to visit Ypres and why their memories are still so vivid. On behalf of The Scots College Pipes & Drums Association, I wish to thank Mr Jacky Platteeuw, Secretary of the Last Post Association for granting the boys of The Scots College Pipes & Drums Band the honour and privilege of marching at the Menin Gate memorial service on the 4th October 2010. Our visit to this most beautiful, yet sobering, monument has left an indelible mark on the minds of each and every band member, staff member and parent who were in attendance that evening. It is a moment in the lives of our 13-17 year old boys that will always be remembered in a most humble and respectful manner. The Band would be honoured to accept your kind invitation to be part of the 100-year commemoration ceremonies that are planned between 2014 and 2018. Thank you for the dedication and respect that your Association members pay each and every night to those fallen ones who have gone before us. Lest we forget.

Sydenham Blues & Royals marched to the Menin Gate on Monday 11th October 2010 and I am honoured to say that I was there and that I took place in the last post ceremony! The band done themselves proud and I'm sure we done the people of Sydenham East Belfast proud aswell. The ceremony was great and the hairs on the back of my neck were standing through the whole service. It was an honour to take park in such a wonderful ceremony and on behalf of Sydenham Blues & Royals I would like to say a great thank you to the Last Post Assosciation!

Witnessed the ceremony on 9th October 2010 and was a real priviliege to see it and what it still means to people.

Twice a year Monk's Walk School students from England attend the Last Post ceremony. When we attended the Ceremony on 18th September, our students were asked to form the Guard of Honour. In addition, one of our students read the eulogy. Three students laid a wreath as part of the ceremony. Our students told us that this was one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of their lives! Thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity to show our respects.
