Op terugreis van onze vakantie, eind september dit jaar waren wij bij u in Ieper. We hadden gehoord van de dagelijkse dodenherdenking en wilden graag eens de herdenking mee maken.
Tot onze grote verbazing waren er grote aantallen mensen die telkens weer om 8 uur bij de poort stonden.

Graag willen wij onze betrokkenheid tonen en ook dank uitspreken voor de onvoorstelbare inzet van uw mensen bij de dagelijks herdenking. Na zoveel jaren nog steeds elke dag een herdenking, geeft de zeer grote betrokkenheid aan.

Wij hopen dat u nog lang en met de zelfde inzet kunt voortgaan. Het verschrikkelijke wat er gebeurd is, mag nooit vergeten worden.

Nogmaals onze bewondering en dank voor uw inzet.

11/11/2011 War poet Siegfried Sassooon was understandably bitter after his WW1 experiences when he questioned ... 'who would remember those who fed the guns'. I witnessed first hand this year the Last Post Ceremony in Ypres. I deny anyone to say they weren't moved by the whole experience. Such daily reverence shown to the fallen, whose faces may fade with the passing years but not the sacrifice they made, for the generations to come. Ypres has given Sassoon his answer.

We were very humbled to witness the ceremony & were honoured when our friend Ian Evans of Tuncurry, NSW, Australia was chosed to give the pledge during the ceremony on the 14/09/2011. This is something that none of us will forget. A wonderful lasting tribute to those that gave their lives. A special thank you to Carl Denys.

Armistice Day commemorated in Ypres ... Respectful, poignant and thought provoking for days after. Thank you Belgium!

First time to attend watched the last post on the 10th nov 2011 and took part in the parade on the 11th of the nov with the delegation from our service and laid a wreath on behalf of the authority. Was really moved will be adding photos of the whole trip to my personal online blog. Hopefully I will be honoured by being asked to return in the future cllr steve lloyd-janes

Many thanks for the touching and beautifull ceremony of 11.11.11.11. at the Menin Gate. Also The Great War Remembered Concert in the Cathedral was magnificent. Congratulations to the organisers and specialy to my friend Carl Denys ! François, grandson of Eugène Biebuyck, Major of artillery 14-18 and Chief Ingeneer for the construction of the Menin Gate.

I was so far from home and wept shamelessly at the playing of the Last Post under the arches of the Menin Gate. Walls etched with the countless names of fallen soldiers ... too many Australians ... too far from home ... in a senseless war. Thank you to the Last Post Association for keeping their sacrifices alive.
